New website! July 5, 2010 at 11:24 am

Well, the old Under The Couch website was starting to get a little creaky, and was running into some serious limitations with the PostNuke software. So, I’m happy to unveil the bright, shiny new Under The Couch website!

All the old content should still be here, although some of it may have moved around a little.

I have also renovated the gallery a little, and started tagging everything with a rough date for when they were completed… makes it a little more obvious when looking at the dodgier minis that they were older work :)

There’s still a bit of work to do, and a lot of the photos still need updating, but hopefully I’ll get to that in due course.

Need extra bases for collectible miniatures? May 8, 2009 at 10:14 am

We have just added sets of 5 20mm and 25mm round bases to the store.

These flat-edged bases are made from 3mm plywood, and sprayed black, ready to be glued onto your small- or medium-sized collectible miniatures.

Perfect for customising, or for replacing oddly-shaped bases.

You can find them in the store here.

Changes to UTC Online Store shipping policy April 3, 2009 at 8:55 am

The store software we’re using at present isn’t really smart enough to figure out whether a purchase can be sent in a padded envelope or needs a box… which is a problem. We sell a lot of small stuff that winds up costing more for shipping than it really should, as we have to charge the box rate as a result.

So, we’re trying a new system for small purchases. If you pay by Paypal and your purchase is small enough to send in a padded envelope instead of in a box, we’ll send it in the envelope and refund you the postage difference. In this case, regular shipping will be AU$2.00 within Australia, and AU$4.00 international.

For the moment, this will only apply to purchases paid through Paypal, as it’s the only method that allows for easy refunds. If you pay by any other method, we’ll continue to just send your purchase in a box, at the parcel rate. If I can find a way to add a voucher or customer credit system to the store software down the track, I’ll look at including other payment methods that way.

eBay no more… March 5, 2009 at 11:59 am

The time has finally come to reorganise how we do business. While eBay’s been fun, it’s just too unpredictable and soaks up too much time that can be spent more productively elsewhere.

So, as of this week, we’re discontinuing the regular bitz and miniatures auctions on eBay, in favour of stocking up the UTC online store instead.

And on that note… Store news for this week:

Star Wars Miniatures
– Big restock of Clone Wars miniatures, including Uncommons, Rares and Very Rares.

Axis & Allies: War at Sea
– Restock of Task Force miniatures, including assorted Uncommons and Rares.

Warhammer 40K
– Restock of Black Reach models.
– An assortment of Dreadnought parts, including weapon arms, added to the Space Marine Vehicles section.

Under The Couch introduces Miniature ID Bands February 19, 2009 at 1:42 pm

One of the problems with pre-painted miniatures games is that everybody’s miniatures look the same… which can be awkward when you’re playing against somebody with the same force as you.

Well, now you can tell your miniatures apart, using Under The Couch’s new Miniature ID Bands.

Miniature ID Bands can be used for distinguishing between your models and your opponent’s, marking different squads within an army, denoting character levels, and quite likely a whole bunch of other things we haven’t thought of yet.

They can be just slipped on and off as required.

Suitable for flat-sided (non-beveled) bases 20mm to 25mm in diameter.

Available now in 6 different colours (Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Orange & White) from the UTC Online Store, in packs of 10 for AU$1.50

Miniatures pictured are Wizards of the Coast’s Star Wars Miniatures, Copyright Lucasarts Ltd, used without permission.

We can rebuild it… October 19, 2008 at 10:35 am

The server on which underthecouch.net is hosted had a major meltdown last week, resulting in a bit of downtime, a switch to a new server, and various parts of the site having to be rebuilt due to not being compatible with said new server.

Hours of fun for all the family!

Everything should be back up an running ok, although I’m still rebuilding the Gallery. The eBay and Commission sections are back up, but I still need to get the Infernus section redone.

Back to base-ics… July 18, 2008 at 9:33 am

A whole gaggle of stuff added to the site this week!

First off, I’ve added a new base style to the Custom Bases section, a Random Tile base.

And while I was working on bases, I have made up an extra 10 Jungle bases, which are currently listed on eBay here, finishing on the 23rd of July.

5th Edition 40K has arrived, and to celebrate I have listed a range of the new eye-wateringly green plastic markers and tokens.

Also listed this week are the usual array of Marine and Chaos bits, and some Champions of the Force singles from Star Wars Miniatures.

You can find all of this week’s auctions in the ‘Current Auctions‘ section.

Back in the store, I have given the catalogue a bit of a revamp, to make Space Marine and Chaos bits a little easier to find, and have added a ‘Recycled Miniatures‘ section, currently listing a slew of pre-loved Space Marine miniatures including 2nd edition plastics, Space Crusade Marines and metal Scouts.

I’ll be adding more to that section as miniatures surface from storage.

We’ll make a new mini of you! July 11, 2008 at 12:36 pm

I came across a box of old Space Marine models in the store room the other day, collected over the years with great intentions, but never actually used for anything.

So, I decided it was time to find these models a better home.

With that in mind, I have set up a ‘Recycled Minis‘ category in the Warhammer 40K section of the online store. In there you will find a range of pre-loved, in some cases partially painted and/or assembled, Space Marine minis including the current multi-parts, 2nd edition starter set minis, the old brightly coloured Space Crusade minis (not brilliantly sculpted, but an excellent cheap filler) and a gaggle of metal Scouts.

If it proves successful, I’ll have to see what else I have laying around that could do with a better home…

In other news, this week’s eBay listings are up, including the usual array of 40K bitz (Marine, Chaos and Orks this week) and Star Wars Miniatures singles from Legacy of the Force and Battle of Hoth.

You can find this week’s auctions in the Current Auctions section here.

I have also added the Battle of Hoth miniatures, map and scenario book to the online store, in the Star Wars section here.

Star Wars Miniatures Custom Cards June 26, 2008 at 10:33 am

I have been tinkering with some ideas for sprucing up Star Wars Miniatures games recently, and thought it was about time to share…

2 sets of game cards have been added to the Downloads section.

The first is a set of Mission Cards. You receive one of these (randomly dealt) at the start of the game, to give you one of 12 different objectives, rather than just playing to wipe each other out all the time.

The second is a set of 40 Event Cards, which add random elements to the game. You receive one card for every 100 points in your squad, and reveal them when you choose. They grant you bonuses like re-rolled or redirected attacks, the ability to steal characters from an opponent’s squad, automatic Critical hits, and a whole slew of others.

Both sets of cards can be found here
