Category / Infernus News – Painted Minis

Bleeurgh…! July 23, 2011 at 12:27 pm

I had a idea a while back to sculpt a bunch of demons from scratch, using a translucent material so that they could be painted as if they were materialising out of thin air. With that in mind, I kicked off the experimenting by picking up a pack each of the translucent versions of Sculpey and Fimo.

Turns out, they’re not actually very translucent. But, I had fun with them, and so decided to keep going with non-transparent demons anyway.

So here’s the first effort, sculpted from Sculpey:

I added my latest painted miniature to the gallery over the weekend… This little fellow is a ‘Verminion’ from a fledgling fantasy range from Black Knight Games.

The third in my series of old 3rd edition battle reports is now online.

This time around, it’s a 1000-point battle between Imperial Guard and Nurgle’s … er, finest?

Imperial Guard vs Nurgle Space Marines

You can find it in the Battle Reports section here.

More soon…

Ancient Battles August 28, 2010 at 8:47 am

Back in the dim and murky mists of time, I had started posting Warhammer 40K battle reports on my old Infernus website. These were abandoned as the apathy of 4th edition set in, but with 5th edition rekindling my love of 40K, I thought it would be fun to dust them off and put them back up online, and hopefully add some new ones when I find the time.

So I have kicked things off with the first two of the original reports, Biglug’s Day Out, a 1500 point Ork vs Imperial Guard battle, and Enter The Dragons, a 1000 point battle between Space Marines and Imperial Guard.

You can find these, and hopefully fairly soon the others, in the new Battle Reports section.

It helps sometimes to have a large and assorted collection of miniatures…

I’ve been introducing a couple of teenage relatives to the joys of Warhammer 40K, setting them up with basic armies to get them started and running through some games of varying sizes with different army lists to get used to the rules.

We ran a slightly larger game than we’ve previously played on the weekend, which, due to the limitations of my current armies, required some ‘creative’ stand-ins.

For the Necrons, behold the might of the fearsome Monolith-E, shown here deep striking onto the table (and unfortunately scattering into Difficult Terrain and getting stuck…)

From the cabinet: Huron Blackheart July 24, 2010 at 8:41 am

I started my Red Corsairs way back in the grim darkness of 2nd edition. Since there was no model for Huron Blackheart at the time, I (rather badly) converted one up based on the Blood Angels’ Commander Dante, but was never entirely happy with it and eventually ripped it apart for bitz.

When I updated all of my armies in 2004, I dusted off the Corsairs and rebuilt them using the 13th Company rules from the Eye of Terror codex. Since my original Huron was in various bitz boxes by that point, I built a new one based on Marneus Calgar.

Another one from the cabinet… July 18, 2010 at 9:08 am

Continuing my crusade to get all of my miniatures photographed (and hampered somewhat by a dodgy LCD monitor which leaves me wondering if the colours and contrast of these pics is anywhere approaching what they should look like), here’s the next old miniature dusted off and photographed:

The Great Army Update – Painting Flames July 13, 2010 at 3:13 pm

Made a little more progress on my Imperial Dragons squad, adding the flames to their right shoulder pads:

It’s been quite a few years since I did any of these, and in that time GW have changed their washes… so I’m not sure if the roughness of these is down to my rusty technique or the different formula of the red wash. Still, they’re passable. On to finishing off their Chapter Badges, and adding in Squad markings.

Blast from the past… July 11, 2010 at 3:45 pm

Over the years, with software changes and camera upgrades, there are a few bits and pieces that have either come and gone from the gallery, or simply never been added in in the first place. I’m hoping over the next few weeks to work my way through the cabinet and add those missing minis back in.

So, I’m kicking things off today with a Harlequin Wraithlord that I converted and painted up way back in 1999.
